Howth Green Party Councillor David Healy congratulated all those
\nresponsible for Howth being recognised as the cleanest town in
\nIreland. Cllr. Healy commented: "The change in the appearance of
\nHowth over the last few years has been remarkable. Previously litter
\nwas a serious problem in Howth. Now the natural beauty of the area is
\nmatched by a clean environment. In particular I want to thank the
\ncleaning staff from Fingal County Council. The extended cleaning
\nservice over the last few years is the key to Howth’s achievements.
\nBut there has been a virtuous cycle: residents and visitors to Howth
\nalike have kept the area much cleaner.<\/p>\n
"Local businesses have
\nplayed an important role. The local primary school Scoil Mhuire and
\nit’s Principal John Chambers deserve particular mention. The
\ngreen-flagged school is putting environmental responsibilty at the core
\nof it’s teaching and it’s grounds were singled out for special mention
\nby the assessors."<\/p>\n
