{"id":64,"date":"2005-10-17T22:05:06","date_gmt":"2005-10-17T22:05:06","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","slug":"Energy_efficiency_and_renewable_energy_requirements_incorporated_into_Local_Area_Plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davidhealy.com\/?p=64","title":{"rendered":"Energy efficiency and renewable energy requirements incorporated into Local Area Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>{mosimage}I successfully proposed at the Council that high standards for energy<br \/>\nefficiency and renewable energy should be incorporated into the Local<br \/>\nArea Plan for the Cappagh area.&nbsp; These standards require an annual<br \/>\nheating and hot water energy requirement not exceeding 50 kWh\/m2 and<br \/>\nthat renewable energy be used to meet at least 30% of the these energy<br \/>\nneeds.&nbsp; These requirements are much higher than that in the<br \/>\nBuilding Control Regulations.&nbsp; We failed to get them into the<br \/>\nWritten Statement of the Development Plan, but did get them agreed from<br \/>\na developer in relation to the Barnhill site in Dublin 15.&nbsp; We are<br \/>\nnow as Greens proposing them for all Local Area Plans and are very<br \/>\npleased to get them agreed in this case. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of new houses being built in Fingal.&nbsp; The 3 Green<br \/>\ncouncillors are doing everything we can to make sure they are built to<br \/>\nthe best energy standards.&nbsp; There is no reason why Ireland can&rsquo;t<br \/>\nbuild houses which are every bit as good as those in Denmark or<br \/>\nSweden.&nbsp; This is a win-win solution, meaning lower energy bills<br \/>\nfor those living in the houses, and much lower emissions of greenhouse<br \/>\ngas which damage the climate. The motion agreed is below.<\/p>\n<p> That the following be included in the Cappagh local area plan:<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The residential development will attain high standards of energy<br \/>\nefficiency and environmental sustainibility, including the following: <br \/>\n&#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; bio-climatic site design,<br \/>\n&#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; water conservation,<br \/>\n&#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ventilation,<br \/>\n&#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; energy efficient strategies for housing design,<br \/>\n&#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; daylight analysis,<br \/>&#8211;&nbsp; high insulation standards<\/p>\n<p>\n&ldquo;All new buildings will meet the minimum low energy performance<br \/>\nstandards (as defined below) as a prerequisite to receiving planning<br \/>\napproval (calculation report to be submitted with the planning<br \/>\napplication).
