{"id":784,"date":"2017-11-02T15:04:44","date_gmt":"2017-11-02T15:04:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/davidhealy.dublin13.com\/?p=784"},"modified":"2019-04-08T19:45:44","modified_gmt":"2019-04-08T19:45:44","slug":"water-framework-directive-areas-for-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davidhealy.com\/?p=784","title":{"rendered":"Water Framework Directive Areas for Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have made the following submission in support of improved catchment management in the Mayne and Santry Rivers, and suggested the addition of the Howth streams to the catchment areas:<\/p>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">There is considerable interest in the area in both freshwater and coastal water. It should be possible to get good public engagement in the RBMP actions in the area.<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">I welcome the inclusion of the Mayne and Santry rivers. They cover a signficant area and significant population; it should be possible to get considerable public involvement in relation to them. Given the extent of development planned in the Mayne catchment, an objective of ensuring that the development does not lead to a degradation in the status of the river and engagement accordingly with planning and building control could make a significant difference.\u00a0 I mentioned the Northside Partnership who have developed a proposal for a Greenway along the Santry River. They may be interested in cooperating on the River itself as well.<\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">I suggest that it makes sense to also include the streams in Howth. (Full list at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_rivers_of_County_Dublin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en-GB&amp;q=https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_rivers_of_County_Dublin&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1509721054051000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHd7Q9Mgm0IYVGZ9H5-QCpDSlRNuA\"><span style=\"color: #1155cc;\">https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/<wbr \/><\/span>List_of_rivers_of_County_<wbr \/>Dublin<\/a><span style=\"color: #222222;\"> but of greatest importance are Balsaggart Stream, Whitewater Brook, Gray&#8217;s Brook, Offington Stream and (because it discharges onto Claremont Beach) the Bloody Stream)\u00a0 The Howth streams are all part of the Special Amenity Area and the Management Committee for that Area would be in a position to participate in and assist the measures to be taken to achieve good status for them.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">It also makes sense to include the coastal waters between where the Santry meets Dublin Bay and Baldoyle Estuary.
