{"id":928,"date":"2019-01-24T19:27:12","date_gmt":"2019-01-24T19:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/davidhealy.dublin13.com\/?p=928"},"modified":"2019-04-08T18:35:54","modified_gmt":"2019-04-08T18:35:54","slug":"response-to-regional-spatial-and-economic-strategy-consultation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davidhealy.com\/?p=928","title":{"rendered":"Response to Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy consultation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a member of the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly, I was involved in drafting the Green Party\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/davidhealy.dublin13.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/GreenPartySubmission.pdf\">submission<\/a> to the consultation on the <a href=\"https:\/\/emra.ie\/draft-rses-public-consultation\/\">draft Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy<\/a>. The submission is quite brief and contains recommendations in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ensuring that effective sustainability indicators are used;<\/li>\n<li>halting and reversing biodiversity loss in line with the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, including large-scale rewetting of peatlands and restoration of natural ecosystems including wetlands and woodlands across the region, taking account of the major social and economic benefits which could result;<\/li>\n<li>ensuring the implementation of the Water Framework Directive through the planning system;<\/li>\n<li>transitioning to the circular economy;<\/li>\n<li>measuring the greenhouse gas emissions from the plan and ensuring it puts us on a path to a low -carbon economy<\/li>\n<li>investing in walking and cycling, recognising their public health and environmental benefits<\/li>\n<li>investing in public transport, in particular rail.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a member of the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly, I was involved in drafting the Green Party\u00a0submission to the consultation on the draft Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy.
