An Bord Pleanála refuses Bayside Shopping Centre application

An Bord Pleanála has refused the application to demolish and rebuild Bayside Shopping Centre with blocks of up to 5 stories.  The Board upheld Fingal County Council’s decision to refuse permission, which I and all other local representatives had supported.

The Board’s decision substantiates the objections of local people and the refusal is based on 5 reasons, particularly that the proposal would have been an overdevelopment and  out of scale with the surrounding area.  The decision provides very clear guidance to the site owners as to what would be acceptable in refurbishing the shopping centre.   It is time now for the shopping centre management to meet with local residents and come up with a proposal for the site which local people can support.
